Do I Need a Printer
Do I Need a Printer One of the most common questions I get from incoming students at the University of Illinois is whether or not they need to purchase and bring a printer to their residence hall room. It is a certainly a question worth asking because some of us have grown up with access to a printer at home. However, it is my opinion that you do not need to buy a printer at any point during your Illinois career. Source: Giphy.com I am now a senior here at Illinois, and I live in an on-campus apartment. I have never owned my own printer during my time away at school. Personally, I view it as an unnecessary purchase because there are plenty of printing resources on campus. Printers are heavy and take up lots of room in a residence hall room. Because youll be sharing space with another student your first year, youre going to want to make space in whatever way possible. I lived very comfortably in Weston Hall without having a printer in my residence hall room. Youre probably wondering where on campus I took advantage of the printing resources. Each residence hall has a printer that is available for use for its residents, whether its in the lobby of the residence hall or in the common areas, like Ikenberry Commons. Residence halls have computers connected to the printers. If thats not enough for you, every library on the campus with the largest library system in the entire country will have printers and computers for you to use. You wont have to supply your own paper and ink, which is an expensive thing to maintain if you were to bring your own printer to campus. Although printing from campus printers isnt free, I have found that it is much cheaper than buying your own printer. The printers that are available for student use have made my academic career much easier. I have Illinois to thank for helping me be a better student through easy access to printing! Daniel Class of 2018 Iâm an Advertising major in the College of Media. Iâm from a northwest suburb of Chicago called Buffalo Grove. I chose Illinois because it was the first university in the entire world to offer an Advertising major, which is pretty cool!
